Faculty Positions
Research faculty in the Indiana University School of Medicine can be both tenure track and non tenure track. For MD faculty in the non tenure track the titles are Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine (or Associate or Professor). For the tenure track, for both MD and PhD faculty, the titles are Assistant Professor of Medicine, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Professor of Medicine. For the PhD faculty in the non tenure track there are two levels: Research Assistant and Research Associate. An additional faculty level rank is Assistant Research Professor (formerly Assistant Scientist) and Associate Research Professor (formerly Associate Scientist). In both of these tracks the salary is generally covered by grants from another more senior investigator, but faculty in the Research Professor level are expected to also apply for their own funding. In addition, this latter rank is often used for individuals to progress prior to beginning the tenure track. Tenure is reviewed after five years.
