Geriatricians are physicians specializing in the often complex care of older adults. After completion of an internal medicine residency, physicians wishing to specialize in geriatrics can complete a one to two year fellowship in geriatrics, leading to board eligibility in geriatric medicine. This is a rapidly growing field that allows many practice options such as focusing entirely on primary care or focusing on rehabilitation.
We would like to make you aware of the 2009 Summer Institute in Geriatric Medicine at Boston University Medical Center, taking place June 1–5, 2009. This program is sponsored by the American Geriatrics Society and the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) with funding from the National Institute on Aging (NIA). This upcoming Summer Institute in Geriatrics is a week-long conference designed for medical students who are interested in pursuing careers in academic geriatric medicine and geriatric research. Activities of the Summer Institute include clinical and research seminars on key geriatrics/aging topics, site visits to our clinical programs, and small group development of a research proposal. Faculty members will include nationally recognized academic geriatricians and Boston University faculty conducting aging research.
A maximum of 20 students will be selected to participate in this program. Please note that applications must be received either electronically or in paper format by Friday, January 9, 2009. Full financial support will be provided. Additional information and application materials can be found at:
