The Aging Brain Program conducts research to discover how best to maintain a healthy brain as people age. We have constructed a world-class clinical laboratory that embraces complexity and exploits information technology. While serving as a vehicle for innovation, this clinical laboratory also serves the care needs of older adults touched by aging brain disorders and their family caregivers. Thus, our discovery laboratory represents a partnership between patients, families, providers, and scientists. Their common goal is a healthy aging brain for all Americans.
For example, our epidemiologists are investigating a variety of risk and protective factors for the development of Alzheimer disease and other dementing illnesses, our implementation scientists are developing new models of care for delirium, dementia, and depression in hospital, primary care, and long-term care settings, and our decision making scientists and ethicists are working on improving communication among providers, patients and their families.
