O'Brien Workshop Registration
The 2017 Indiana O’Brien Center for Advanced Microscopic Analysis Workshop Registration is now open. The 2017 workshop will be held April 10th – April 14th in Indianapolis. The objective of this 5-day workshop is to provide training in quantitative intravital microscopy of the kidney to investigators from around the world in the form of a series of morning lectures and afternoon hands-on laboratory exercises. We typically accept up to twenty participants who, upon approval and with the support of our technicians and faculty, will be able to conduct studies of their own.

Benson receives funding

Eric Benson, MD, PhD, Assistant Research Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine was recently awarded a K08 clinical investigator award titled “Exosome Kinetics in Vivo: Cell Type and Drug Specific Effects” from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. This award began on September 15, 2016 and will run through August 31, 2020. The purpose of the proposed study is to discern the kinetics of circulating exosomes between different cell types and after drug treatments, so that the exosomes may be better used as biomarkers.

Econs is president-elect of ASBMR

Michael Econs, M.D., Glenn W. Irwin Jr. Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism and professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism has been named president-elect of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. Econs, who also serves as division chief for endocrinology, joins a leadership team at the society that pulls from around the world.

Imperiale tapped for Lumeng Professor

Thomas Imperiale, M.D., was named the first Lawrence Lumeng Professor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Imperiale, professor of medicine, has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and other top-tier journals. This professorship is named after Dr. Lawrence Lumeng, division director of gastroenterology and hepatology from 1983 to 2007.

Evans-Molina named Ritchey Scholar

Carmella Evans-Molina, associate professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology was named the J.O. Ritchey, M.D. Scholar of Medicine. Evans-Molina also serves as the associate director of development of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Research. Earlier this year, she was awarded with a Research Frontier Trailblazers Award for her impressive research work to date. The honor is named for Dr. James O. Ritchey, who spent 68 years affiliated with the IU School of Medicine, including a stint as chair of the Department of Medicine.
