Indiana University Hospital and Outpatient
Center
Consistently
ranked among the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and many
other guides to health care, Indiana University Medical Center is widely recognized for
its clinical excellence. University Hospital is a tertiary care hospital that hosts
nationally and internationally recognized programs in specialized care. Of the
hospital’s 390 beds, 90 are for medicine service with 30 dedicated intensive care
unit beds.
IU Hospital & Outpatient Center houses a high-technology imaging
center that is the only facility in Indiana with all the high-tech modalities such as PET,
CT and MRI, and is the only facility that provides high resolution transmission to a
network of hospitals. Transplant teams perform more transplants than any other Indiana
hospital and offer seven transplantation programs for adults. To care for bone marrow
transplant patients, University Hospital & Outpatient Center has a dedicated 14-bed
adult bone marrow transplantation unit. A comprehensive adult kidney program treats all
forms of congenital and acquired renal disease.

Riley Hospital for Children
Riley
Hospital for Children is Indiana's only comprehensive pediatric hospital and is the
largest intensive care children's hospital in the country. It includes the Herman B. Wells
Center for Pediatric Research, a Level I Trauma Center and the only pediatric burn unit in
Indiana. Riley Hospital also is the only hospital in the state that provides organ
transplantation for infants and children, surgery to correct cranial anomalies, pediatric
renal dialysis, and an advanced technique called Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation
(ECMO) - a support system for newborns with serious lung disorders that allows their lungs
to heal by breathing for them. A pediatric bone marrow transplant unit with ten dedicated
beds was recently constructed at Riley to better accommodate the number and variety of
pediatric patients with cancer and blood-related disorders. Riley is a national model for
parental participation and education in the care of ill children.

Wishard Memorial Hospital
Wishard
Hospital, located on the northeast corner of the medical center complex, is a 340-bed
acute care hospital with 90 medicine beds. It has one of the most active emergency rooms
in the state. Wishard is an award-winning municipal hospital known nationally for its
efficiency, excellent care outcomes, and a state-of the-art computerized order entry and
patient database system. A national study, the "100 Top Hospitals; Benchmarks for
Success," ranks hospitals on eight measures that indicate high value to customers
through effective use of resources, efficient provision of care, and high-quality
outcomes. Wishard is one of only seven hospitals in the nation to make this list during
the first three years it was compiled. Basic research laboratories for the divisions of
cardiology, pulmonary medicine, and clinical pharmacology are located in Wishard
facilities, as is the Regenstrief Institute, a health services research organization.
Wishard Advantage is a managed health care program for low
income residents of Marion County, administered by IU Medical Group - Primary Care on
behalf of Wishard Health Services and Health & Hospital Corporation.

Richard L. Roudebush
Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The VAMC serves as a designated referral center for several other
facilities in the Midwest. The 610 bed hospital, handles over 10,000 admissions annually,
in addition to approximately 150,000 outpatients. It provides acute-care services and it serves as a
designated referral center for smaller VA hospitals in Indiana and surrounding states. In
addition, the VAMC is also the site of several basic science laboratories as well as a
large health services research group.

Methodist is a 760-bed tertiary care hospital
with a long tradition of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. Methodist serves as a major referral center for patients throught central
Indiana. It is a Level One trama center and provides a vast array of sophisticated
subspecialty medical and surgical services.
