Veterans Administration Fellowship

The Divisions of Clinical Pharmacology and Palliative Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) seek candidates with General Medicine training for a two year Veterans Administration-sponsored fellowship. The American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine has accredited the Palliative Medicine fellowship at IUSM. Fellows learn to improve the quality of life in the terminally ill and to become leaders in the Palliative Medicine field. Fellows also receive clinical training in Clinical Pharmacology and interventional pain management in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Indianapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center. This joint training focuses on pain research stressing pharmacogenomics and individualized therapeutics and on mastering anesthesiology techniques to control pain. The fellowship prepares trainees for subspecialty careers in Hospice and Palliative Care and as independent clinical investigators in academia or industry. Salaries are competitive based on VA scales for post-graduate training.

Fellowship candidates must have an MD degree or its equivalence and have completed a recognized primary care residency. Requirements for international fellows are detailed below:
