Bio

As a physician and clinical scientist, Dr. Storniolo's career focus is on compassionate, state-of-the-art oncologic care in the context of an academic setting. She is an active participant in bringing science to the bedside, and clinical observations back to the laboratory. Dr. Storniolo's commitment to translational research and to the importance of biologically-driven clinical trials, with emplasis on biospecimens, is seen through her various academic activities.

Dr. Storniolo served as co-chair of the Her-2 Working Group within the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium (TBCRC) from its inception in 2006 to 2012. She has been the lead investigator representing IU School of Medicine from the beginning of this consortium. In 2001, Dr. Storniolo founded Indiana's first Breast Cancer Prevention Program, which provides individualized counseling and surveillance to hundreds of women at high risk for breast cancer.

In addition, Dr. Storniolo is the founder and executive director of the Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank at IU Simon Cancer Center, a unique resource of annotated breast samples from healthy volunteers. By providing the ability to correlate risk factors with changes in breast tissue, the Bank hopes to unlock the secret of breast carcinogenesis. The Bank currently has annotated breast specimens from over 5,000 individuals.
