Bio

Dr. Brown came to IU from The University of Rochester School of Medicine and has been a key research faculty in our division since he began studying HPV infection in 1985. He played integral roles in the development of the latest HPV vaccines. Dr. Brown continues to be at the forefront of HPV research and focuses his research interests on the natural history of HPV infections with emphasis on early events such as viral transmission, the immunologic response to infection and the duration of HPV detection and on later events such as low-level persistence, viral integration and oncogenesis. He also studies the global epidemiology of HPV infections and HPV-associated cancers as well as the continued assessment of the immunogenicity, efficacy and safety of the currently available vaccines for HPV. After a one-year sabbatical serving in the Peace Corps in Malawi, Dr. Brown continues to work on the development of new prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines against HPV infection and disease.
