Jennifer R. Hur, MD

Born and raised in New York, Dr. Hur earned her medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University.  She completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where she began her career in academic hospital medicine, further honed at Weill Cornell Medical Center in NYC, before relocating to Indy in 2006.  Initially an academic hospitalist at University then Wishard Hospitals, she now cares for complex medical patients prior to undergoing surgery at IUH University Hospital.  Dr. Hur is a local authority on perioperative medicine and teaches residents and colleagues on the subject. Her clinical research interests include preoperative medical assessments and more recently, risk assessment for the geriatric surgical population.

As the first Key Clinical Educator for the Department of Medicine, representing the campus academic hospitalists, Dr. Hur facilitated educational initiatives for the Department of Medicine in both undergraduate and graduate medical education.  Her educational research interests are in the application of technology and multimedia learning for medical education.  In 2021, Dr. Hur stepped in as interim Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program in Indianapolis, and assumed the permanent role in 2022. Based largely on her own training experiences, Dr. Hur passionately believes that balancing academic rigor with wellness is vital for ensuring an optimal training environment to support our residents as they acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to provide superlative, equitable health for their patients, contribute to medical science, educate their peers and communities in evidence-based healthcare, and of course, enjoy a lifetime of fulfillment for themselves.
