The overall goals of the Indiana University fellowship training program in Infectious Diseases are:
- to prepare trainees with the knowledge and skills, and to nurture the behaviors, necessary to become proficient in the consultative and primary care of patients with infectious diseases
- to provide sufficient background for trainees to contribute meaningfully to a hospital's infection epidemiology activities
- to provide trainees with sufficient research experience to understand the role of research in the advancement of medical science and clinical care and to determine whether a fellow would desire a research career
- to provide the base for development of such a career for fellows interested in such a career pathway
