Biographical Summary:

Dr. Lopshire obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology and M.S. in Biology from Purdue University. He received a Ph.D. in Medical Neurobiology from Indiana University. He subsequently completed a combined MD/PhD degree from Indiana University. His postgraduate training included a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases and cardiac electrophysiology at the Indiana University Medical Center.

Dr. Lopshire's clinical interests include cardiac arrhythmias and conduction system disease, cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death, interactions between the nervous and cardiovascular systems including diabetic neuropathies and cardiac sensation, electrophysiological manifestations of congestive heart failure, implantable cardiac device therapy, and catheter ablation techniques.

Dr. Lopshire's research interests are broadly focused on increasing our understanding of the role that derangements in neuronal and cardiac electrical signaling play in human diseases. His research laboratory has ongoing studies examining the role of spinal cord stimulation at mitigating heart failure and cardiac arrhythmogenesis, mechanisms of cardiac neuropathies, cellular and molecular pathophysiology in experimental and human heart failure, gene-therapy and vector delivery development studies to create functional biological pacemakers, and non-invasive imaging of neuronal innervation of the heart.
