Nuclear imaging modalities are routinely used to diagnose various heart conditions. The services of Technetium or Thallium based cardiac single photon emission tomography (SPECT) stress testing, myocardial viability assessment, multi-gated acquisition scan (MUGA) and cardiac positron tomography (PET) are routinely being performed currently. We perform about 2000 studies per year with over 10,000 stress studies performed in our laboratories. A dedicated outpatient nuclear cardiac imaging service is available to our patients in the clinic area at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology.

Our fellowship program offers level 1 and 2 training available to our trainees as per current COCATS guidelines. On average, fellows receive 2-4 months of nuclear imaging rotations during their three year clinical rotations. They receive supervised hands-on training in all nuclear stress lab procedures and on scan interpretation skills. Didactic core-lectures, reviewing of teaching case files and clinical case conferences are a part of the training. Clinical and basic research is an integral part of the service. We take part in many national multi-center studies and also conduct independent investigator initiated nuclear cardiac imaging studies.
