Steven R. Counsell, MD, is the Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Professor in Geriatrics and founding director of "IU Geriatrics", the academic geriatrics program at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is the Director of the IU-Hartford Center of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine and Scientist, IU Center for Aging Research. Dr. Counsell was awarded by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) the 2007 Dennis W. Jahnigan Memorial Award for his leadership and significant contributions to the progress of geriatrics education. Dr. Counsell focuses his research and serves as a national consultant to healthcare systems on innovative models of care such as Acute Care for Elders (ACE) inpatient programs and home-based geriatrics care management.
