Dr. Homer Twigg

Homer L. Twigg III is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Indiana University and has been Chief of the Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine Division since 2000. He has been an active member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) since 1986 and has served on the Research Advocacy Committee, Scientific Advisory Council, Training Committee, American Lung Association (ALA)/ATS Research Grant Review Committee, and the Allergy, Immunology, and Inflammation Assembly Program Committee.

Dr. Twigg’s main research focus has been in pulmonary immune host defense against infectious pathogens in HIV infection. His research has involved patients in the U.S. as well as internationally in Africa. He has served on several NIH Special Emphasis Panels focusing on research directions in the field of HIV infection and the lung. He has been an integral member of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), both locally at Indiana University and nationally, having served on the ACTG Therapeutic Immunology Subcommittee and as Principal Investigator on a multicenter study examining the effects of highly active antiretroviral therapy on viral load and immune reconstitution in the lung. Finally, he was a member of the NIAID Special Emphasis Panel Review Group that reviewed the restructuring of HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Networks.
