We chose IU for our residency training for several reasons. One of the most important reasons for us is that the program is very "couples friendly." Everything we were told about this during the interview was true. This was something that we were concerned about when we were going through the couples match. Our schedules have been well-matched and we've had no problems getting our vacations and days off together.

Another reason I chose the program is because of the feeling of camaraderie here. Any residency program is going to be difficult, but it makes a huge difference when you are working with genuine team players who care about each other. We even chose to spend more time with each other on a weekly basis outside of work!

Lastly, the city of Indianapolis is a hidden gem. I've lived in cities like Boston out on the East Coast and I never imagined I would have just as much fun here in Indianapolis. The city is diverse, beautiful, clean and full of things to do. There are many, many restaurants, cultural events, shopping, festivals, concerns, and sporting events.

After interviewing at a dozen different programs in the Midwest, I chose IU for several reasons, including the diversity of practice environments. With four clinical sites in the program you get a chance to experience the breadth of American medicine today. I was also impressed with the strength of informatics here at IU. And finally, I was most impressed by the residents during AM report and how well the faculty interacted with the housestaff.

I chose Indiana University for my Internal Medicine training because I felt comfortable during my interview here. All the interns and residents are very friendly and helpful, and they have really helped to welcome me to Indianapolis. I've really enjoyed my first few week in the city and look forward to experiencing all the cultural, musical, and sporting events that Indy has to offer.

My girlfriend and I were looking for the combination of a couple things: 1) A larger academic setting, that would afford the opportunity to get the fellowships we wanted. 2) A non-malignant setting in which to do this, which was also couples friendly. 3) Plus, it had to be in a bigger, fun, midwest city. IU was the only program which met this somewhat stringent combination of criteria. Now that we are here the learning/academic environment is great, as there is as much structured/on the job learning as you can make time for. It is definitely non-malignant, as it never feels as if you are competing with the other interns, but rather working together and truly having fun. Finally, I was very surprised by the city. There is all kinds of fun! Already, we have been to an Indians game, two concerts, plenty of restaurants, the IMAX, the NCAA Hall of Fame, plenty of festivals, and are planning on three Colts games this year (that's in the first two months!).

I have chosen Indiana University because I have heard a lot about the wide pathology that the residents see during their training. And I realized that everything is true during my interview day, when I saw that each hospital is different in the pathology exposure, and in the experience the residents get during their residency. After two month at IU, I feel that I have made one of the most important decisions in my life to be here. I am working as a doctor, having fun with other interns and residents, and overall, learning a lot.

It sure is amazing how time flies. I am really happy about how the last two years have helped me to grow my overall personality in addition to the medical knowledge. I think our program is underrated considering the outstanding training and education we get here.
