Toxicology Consults
Toxicology Consults
The Medical Toxicology Service consults on patients at Wishard and admits and consults on patients at Methodist. The day begins with in-patient rounds followed by a review of Poison Center cases that have been admitted around the state. Lectures on core topics are presented daily by the fellows and staff. Core topics include: General management, acetaminophen, cyclic antidepressants, cardiac drugs, toxin-induced seizures and coma and other pertinent topics. Residents will be assigned topics of interest for a brief informal presentation each week. Residents choose 10 days of “home call” during which they will be paged to come in if an admission arrives. The resident will always be accompanied by a fellow or staff member for admissions. The schedule generally provides ample opportunity for reading. A maximum of one week of vacation can be taken during this rotation. There will be 1-2 positions available for medicine residents per month depending upon enrollment from other services. There will be a quiz at the end of the month. Residents will see occupational patients, and spend time in the Poison Center listening to calls.
